As part of actions to checkmate any attempt aimed at unsettling the prevailing peace in Delta State and its environs following the Fulani herdsmen’s menace, adequate documentation and registration of immigrants have commenced as a security measure by the Asaba community.

Confirming this to journalists Saturday in Asaba, the Iyase of Asaba, Chief Patrick Onyeobi, said that the actions had to be taken in the overall interest of Asaba indigenes and non-indigenes resident in Asaba.
Chief Onyeobi expressed serious worries over the criminal activities of suspected Fulani herds men, noting that the documentation among other measures, were convey ways of ensuring that peace prevails in Asaba Community, saying that the influx of unidentified persons into Asaba and its environs in the last one year sharing similar features were but without any means of identification or traceability.

According to him ‘Anybody who comes in this magnitude should be documented, not for any other reason but for security purposes, the size of the migration of people into Asaba is frightening, peace is what we want in Asaba, but let nobody think that they had deceived us with theses antics that we don’t know what is likely going to happen tomorrow, we must take the bull by the horn’.
While thanking security operatives for their roles in ensuring that the State remains the most peaceful in the country, Chief Onyeobi said that they have been a successful peaceful co-existence among the people and also successful in repelling the herdsmen back to where they came from, even as he appealed to the Hausa community to co-operate with the law enforcement agencies as they cannot claim ignorance of the mischievous Fulani herdsmen Fulani whom they are closely related to.

He said ‘The Hausa community cannot tell us that they don’t know them, it is a lie, they are afraid and they fear for their lives, these Fulani people stay with you, they live with you, we have been able to gather all their leaders to document them, we have their pictures and we told them that if anything happens they will be held responsible, they agreed and they signed some documents for us’

The Iyase also expressed fear over the influx of un- identified persons into Asaba and pledged to abide by all recommendations to sustain the peace in the city, even as he reaffirmed that sustainable peace will continue to prevail in Asaba.
